Ohne Titel is a textile collection inspired by the art of Joseph Beuys, On Kawara, Cy Twombly and Shusaku Arakawa. From their work I took the idea of focusing on mundane elements as abstractions, such as text and documentation of ordinary life. The visual and material elements of their art like brown cardboard, office paper, pencil writing, paint stains and bureaucratic forms were brought into the textile collection as well. Ohne Titel is an exercise to use a vast variety of methods to create textiles for clothing.
One of the most important lessons during this process was to understand how raw materials act in different ways and can be manipulated through their chemical and physical qualities. My focus was also on weaving fabrics that I know I can alter with a specific finishing technique. The final finishing method influenced the choice of fibres, yarns and structures. I used for example printing, overdyeing, felting, brushing, caldering, etching and drying in a tumble dryer. One focal point was also to experiment how to create three-dimensional fabrics with crepe yarns, elastic yarns and plissé knitting.
